9/20/2005: Grants.gov: Clearinghouse Makes Federal Funding Opportunities Available Online
Grants from 26 federal agencies-including the Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Department of Labor (DOL), and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)-are now available at Grants.gov, a recently-launched online clearinghouse. Grants.gov, a federal cross-agency e-initiative, allows visitors to search, view, download, and submit grant applications for over 900 grant opportunities that total over $360 billion. Grants are available for state and local governments, research institutions, non-profit organizations and other entities.
Several potentially reentry related grant opportunities are available through Grants.gov, including the following examples:
- Community Development Technical Assistance McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance (HUD);
- Bureau of Justice Assistance Community-Based Problem-Solving Criminal Justice Initiative's Technical Assistance Program (DOJ);
- Substance Abuse, HIV, & Hepatitis Prevention for Minority Populations and Minority Reentry Populations in Communities of Color (HHS); and,
- Workforce Investment Act - Demonstration Grants; Solicitation for Grant Applications - Prisoner Reentry Inititatives (DOL).
The goal of Grants.gov is to provide a simple, unified source to grant applicants to electronically find, apply, and manage federal grant opportunities. The website was selected as one of fifty public sector initiatives to be named as a finalist for the 2005 Innovations in American Government Award, sponsored by the Ash Institute for Democratic Governance and Innovation at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. Grants.gov is a project of the Department of Health and Human Services.
Grants.gov partner agencies are responsible for making their grant opportunities available through the website. For the most current information from a partner agency, potential grantees should contact the agency directly.
