About the Report of the Re-Entry Council

1: Encouraging Collaboration Among Stakeholders

Engage key stakeholders in a joint venture regarding prisoner re-entry and focus the group's attention on a particular aspect of the issue.

Overview

The single most important common denominator shared among jurisdictions that have launched a successful re-entry initiative is that some collaboration between representatives of at least two independent organizations preceded the development and implementation of the program or policy.

Recommendations

  1. Recognize the complexities of the different systems.
  2. Identify key stakeholders and engage them in a discussion regarding re-entry.
  3. Define the scope of the problem.

Related Policy Statements

  1. Coalition-building experts stress the differences among cooperation, coordination, collaboration, and partnerships. In practice, however, these terms are used almost interchangeably. This Report places a premium on partnerships, while recognizing that there are differences, though they are often difficult to distinguish, among cooperation, coordination, and collaboration. back
